Michael Bruley was born and grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, USA. His location allowed him exposure to several near by cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., and New York where he was first exposed to the world of art. At the age of 12 Michael started painting when a family friend gave him his first canvas, paint and brushes. As a creative Michael quickly started branching out to other mediums such as photography.
Quickly, he started to realize when creating art the possibilities are endless. At a young age Michael focused on painting, which in time turned into photography and the mixture of the mediums. His time at Chesapeake College where he achieved his AA degree introduced him to realistic oil painting under the instruction of Professor James Plum. After acquiring his associates degree he applied and was accepted into the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in the Photography and Art Therapy Departments. It was in the Photography department where Michael realized his love for painting and with that he switched to the Painting and Drawing Department while having a dual major in Art Therapy. Mr. Bruley graduated with his BFA in Painting and Drawing and a concentration in Art Therapy, but before he was ever in college he was publicly showing and selling his art. After graduating from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia Michael was in a life changing automobile accident which took years to recover.
Everything creative quickly came to a halt, all life in the arts came to a stop. Michael went on with his life scrapping to get by with no real focus except survival. At that time Michael never thought he'd participate in the art world again. Several years later after mishaps and the struggles of just surviving life Michael was peering into an outdoor Jazz Festival because he didn't the money to attend his creative energy started once again. With a few dollars in his pocked he stopped at a local art supply store in Chestertown, MD where he was living. He got a few sheets of watercolor paper remembering the few watercolor paints he still had from years ago. With just black, red, yellow and blue watercolor paints Michael started painting once again. After this exposure and explosion of creative energy he started showing his work again and then once again started getting commissions, mainly marketing pet portraits at the time. For several years after Michael always had a regular job to pay the bills and support his love for creating and art. It wasn't until 2017 that Michael made it a goal to start the transition from part-time artist to full-time professional artist.
In 2020 when the Covid epidemic hit the world Michael decided it was time to restructure his life and is not a full-time artist diverse in many mediums such as watercolor, acrylic, oil, print making and stained glass art. Now, Michael is an international artist with his art collected world wide, hanging in homes next to Andy Warhol's, Keith Haring's and other artists that he has admired. Michael celebrates his love for art and does what he can to share it with the world, he hosts exhibits, paint parties and takes on commissions. Abstract art is one of his favorite styles to paint because he lives the hidden meaning found in the art as well as textures.
Recently, Michael has found a love for creating captivating stained glass windows. He is often found in his art studio jumping from style to style and medium to medium with fluidity. In the last couple of years Michael has broken into the international sales market, shipping and showing his art in France, London & Manchester. Back in his home city of Baltimore, MD before showing and selling internationally his art has been on permanent display on Capital Hill in Washington D.C., Lord Baltimore Hotel of Baltimore, MD., and other venues and cities.
